General work history

Pattern cutter & fitter

2007 to present

I began drafting patterns at the age of 14 and it’s been a life-long passion. My first experience drafting for film was in 2007 and I’ve been developing my skills ever since.
I mainly draft on paper, however I also use Clo3d as an efficient way to draft and fit garments digitally, allowing
costume designers and makers to more clearly visualize how a costume will look and move on a human body before any fabric is cut.

My goal is to facilitate costumes that are functional, wearable, and bring the costume designer's vision to life in the most practical way possible, while also minimizing waste (materials, budget and time).

Costume fabricator & stitcher

1996 to present

I have extensive experience with a wide range of fabrics and unusual materials, including spandex, leather, urethane, silicone, thermoplastics etc.

I'm experienced in using a variety of industrial sewing machines and related equipment and am comfortable with nearly anything you throw at me.

Supervisor

2010 to present

I fell into supervising almost by accident, but found that I enjoy managing a small team, and working with a costume designer to help bring their vision to life in a practical, functional way.

Set costumer / Stand-by

2010 to present

With my experience in making specialty costumes, I am sometimes enlisted to travel with the completed costumes to maintain and dress the suits.
Whether solo or as part of a team, I’m experienced in dressing & de-rigging performers, wrangling costumes on set, supervising maintenance & repair during production, and preparing costumes for wrap at the end of the show. My experience includes specialty suits, armour and creatures.

Digital costume consultant

2024 to present

My consultancy work combines my decades of costume-making experience with a deep interest in how technology can complement the design-to-manufacture pipeline.

In this role, I collaborate with a costume designer and the VFX team to create hand-over packs to ensure the costumes are recreated as accurately as possible in digital form.

Work of note

Avatar sequels - Na'vi costume art director & supervisor

2017 - December 2024

Working alongside Academy Award-winning Costume Designer, Deborah L Scott, I led a team of handcraft artisans to create each item of the Na'vi costumes and accessories for Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Together we explored a wide range of techniques such as braiding, weaving, carving, beading, embroidery, leatherwork and textile manipulation.

Wētā Workshop: Specialty costume maker, Head of Costume & Textiles Department

2007 - December 2024

Working as part of a creative team is my favorite aspect of creating film costumes.

Wētā Workshop has been a huge part of my career for over a decade and I've had the incredible opportunity to work on some exciting and challenging film costumes as a department head, art director, pattern cutter & fitter, stitcher/machinist, creature fabricator and more.

I've also had the opportunity to take some of these costumes on set, both within New Zealand and around the world.  I enjoy the unique challenges and pressure that come with shooting specialty costumes & creatures and keeping those costumes in screen-ready condition.

Showgirl costumier

2005 - 2018 and 2025 to present

Although I began making costumes for dancers in the late 90's, it wasn't till 2005 that I began directing my focus toward burlesque performers and showgirls, combining my love for corsets, feathers, sparkling embelloishments and creative problem-solving.

From 2013 - 2017 I was named among the top 10 Burlesque Costumiers and Non-Performing Women in the annual international 20th Century Burlesque Top 50 lists and created costumes for some of the most well-known performers in the world.
