Pattern Cutter

I began drafting patterns at the age of 14 and it’s been a life-long passion.  My first experience drafting for film was in 2007 and I’ve been developing my skills ever since.

I mainly draft on paper, however more recently I’ve been using Clo3d as an effective way to draft and fit garments digitally before cutting into fabric.

My main areas of expertise are:

Specialty costumes - superheroes, sci-fi, space suits, creatures etc

Lingerie & corsetry - Structured garments, stretch garments

Costume & garment manufacture

My private workroom is equipped to manufacture small to medium sized runs of garments & textile products.

Located in Otaki, 50 mins drive up the coast from Wellington, New Zealand.  â€‹

I provide my services to productions worldwide, and can arrange shipment via Fedex or DHL, or if a production requires priority freight I can ship via Stage Freight (NZ specialists in international freight for film productions).

If your production is located in New Zealand between Wellington & Palmerston Nth, i can provide same-day pick-up and drop-off services if the schedule allows.

Digital costume prototyping

Combining 18 years of experience building specialty costumes with 3d software to create highly accurate digital representations of costumes & clothing.

Whether for a purely digital output (2d images, 3d characters etc) or to assist a costume designer by digitally prototyping costumes to allow for clear visualization, fitting and alterations before cutting into costly fabrics.

Textiles, adornments & embellishments

Hand crafted textiles, adornments, passementerie, woven on multi-shaft looms and various handweaving techniques.

I have a close network of talented artisans who specialize in leathercraft, feathers, embroidery, beading, knitting, shell & bone carving, sculpting, flax weaving, basketry, textile manipulation, metalwork and many more.

Specialty costume consultant

If a costume does not allow for the performer to do their job in front of the camera or an audience, then that costume is not functional.

I enjoy collaborating with costume designers, concept artists, costume supervisors etc to advise on how their costume design could be built in the most efficient, functional way.

I've had the fortune to work alongside artists from a wide range of disciplines, and have learned how best to incorporate various elements into the costumes i build:

Creature/SPFX sculptors & makeup artists, 3D modelers, Painters, Hair technicians, prop makers, mold makers, casting technicians, costume prop technicians, textile artists and more.

I've worked with an interesting selection of materials, and have a good base understanding of urethanes, silicones, foam latex, leather & fur, 3d print materials etc, and how they can be integrated into a costume build.

I'm available to work remotely as well as on-site, and I'm comfortable travelling worldwide as required.

Costume wrangler / Set stand-by / Set costumer

My experience covers planning the methodology, building & fitting the costumes, dressing & de-rigging performers, wrangling costumes on set, maintenance & repair during production, and preparing costumes for wrap at the end of the show.

It takes a team, and there's no "right" way to do these things, so i like to remain flexible and problem-solve on the fly with the engagement of the wider team.

Orthopedic support garments

I've found that my background in building unusual garments has given me the technical skills to develop custom-made support garments for disabled clients.

I've been an ACC approved vendor since 2009 (New Zealand)
